Interestingly, the thing that made me laugh the hardest was the Bill Cosby voice message at the end. Whoever did that needs massive props, 'cause it was a damn near spot-on imitation.

Tomamoto is to blame for that number

For some reason, I really enjoy playing this game. It took me a while to figure out how to play it well, though. I found it much easier to play when zoomed out - keeping a distance from all the enemies to keep the view zoomed out and holding down the "A" key, I beat the game on "Crazy" difficulty very quickly, only dieing once. I liked the music, I liked the design, and the controls weren't as bad as everybody says - not to me, at least.
The only thing that could be improved upon is making the zoom in/out function manual instead of automatic, because it was very annoying to have the camera zoom in at the most inopportune times, limiting my view range and aim, and also increase the lag tenfold.
So, if you somehow made the zoom function manual, this game would easily be worth 10/10 - but as it is, I give it a 9/10. I really hope you make a Cell Defender 2!
Author's Response:
Thanks for playing, it's great to find people who really give a chance to the game instead of criticize after 30 seconds of playing.
I didn't though "Crazy" difficulty was easy, maybe I'm bad player in my own game ;) . Really, thanks for your feedback.

"Worthy of being in the Brackenwood Collection"
I enjoyed watching this, though I will say that Sisyphus' grunts got a bit old toward the end... I wouldn't recommend getting rid of the grunts, just making them quieter.
The animation, on the other hand, was pretty darn good. It wasn't exceedingly detailed, but it was stylistic and fairly smooth. Yes, it looks an awful lot like Adam Phillips' work, and it does lack the overall polish of a Brackenwood film, but it's still a cut above 90% of the stuff on this site. Like so many others have said already, it doesn't matter that your style is -CURRENTLY- similar to Phillips'. If you were claiming that you came up with the style yourself and gave no credit to Phillips', then it would be different, but as it is, people have no right to criticize this movie because it "lacks originality" in the style. The only way you can really get better at something is by copying someone better than you - your own unique style will surface in the process.
Another thing I would recommend is that you include an explanation of the Myth of Sisyphus somewhere, either in the description or the video itself, because too many people are giving it bad marks because they don't know the legend and are too illiterate to read the video's description. Otherwise, they'd know that the movie is -BASED- on the Myth of Sisyphus.
Great work! I'll be looking forward to future submissions from you!

"...How are these still entertaining!? HOW!!??"
Honestly, I've seen about six or seven different versions of this by different people, and they're all technically the same; there's no real improvement in animation, graphics, or basic formula, but SOMEHOW they remain entertaining. AMAZINGLY entertaining. Hell, I'd even go so far as to say they're actually getting better. I really can't explain it. Oh well, best not to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Anyway, the Captain Planet one had be rolling on the ground. I'll join the majority by demanding another one. They are like CANDY. ...sorta.
GRAPHICS - Not your own, but the lip-syncing was phenomenal. [8]
SOUND - Again, are you kidding? [10]
INTERACTIVITY - +5 points for the scene-select, -1 for an apparently broken play button. [4]
STYLE - Phoenix Wright parodies? Are you kidding? [10]
VIOLENCE - No blood! No gore! Yay! [0]
HUMOR - I lawled, and it isn't even midnight. Automatic [10]
OVERALL - Yet another hilarious addition to the series. I reserve 10s for top-of-the-pile stuff like the Brackenwood shorts, so a 9 from me is essentially a 10. [9]
Keep 'em comin'!

"Great Effects, Beautiful Art, Average Animation"
First off, I'd love to see the machine that can run this video smoothly. The animation was, in most places, pretty sub-par, but the effects and artistry were stunning. I've never seen someone draw fog quite as accurately as you have in this video, and I fear I'll never get my head around drawing mechs. The explosions and... oh hell, just about everything was executed with extreme finesse and artistry. I almost dropped my jaw when I saw the fog and sunbeams, but cringed when I saw the animation.
So, what really stood out for me was the effects. The story... meh, I was never a big Macross fan, but I'm not a hater. I respect it deeply as a good show that opened up very many doors as far as anime goes. In this video, the animation was, alas, motion-tweened bits and pieces. There's a way to do it so it looks good, (Tomorrow's Nobodies comes irresistibly to mind,) and you were ALMOST there. But that aside, the effects were just awesome. You've got amazing artistic talent; that much is obvious from the wonderful backgrounds, but though doing frame-by-frame animation for the characters would have probably significantly lengthened production time, I think it would have been wise.
Also, the downside to all those awesome effects is that most computers chew on them like frozen caramel - even on the lowest graphics setting, it lagged in most places, and believe me when I say my machine isn't too shabby. I'm sure I'll never know why it's so hard for most computers to run graphic-intensive Flash movies while being able to run games like Half-Life at a good framerate. Oh well, that isn't your failing. I'd just love to see the machine that could run this movie smoothly, as I said earlier.
Onto the judgin':
Graphics - Great effects, beautiful art, average animation. - 9
Style - Hey, it's old-school anime, man! Can't go wrong! - 10
Sound - Good, but could have been a bit better, methinks. - 8
Violence - Explosions and stuff, but no blood or gore (that's good). - 5
Interactivity - Extra points for the expanded menu. - 4
Humor - I don't think this movie was intended for comedic effect. - 0
Overall - Amazing eye-candy, but animation was a glaring defect. - 8
I understand and appreciate the amount of work that went into this, and I give you due props for it. This movie is certainly in the top 5% of movies on Newgrounds. Pat yourself on the back, if you haven't already, but know that there is definitely room for improvement. I look forward to your future work!

Thanks for the comprehensive review (and for not being too harsh!) Again, I never had a background in animation... I used to watch a lotta cartoons, but that doesn't really count, does it? :P
Whenever I reach the 3 month mark during production, I lose a lot of interest in the project, and it becomes a chore to complete... I guess since I'm a one man team, it's... good enough? Anyway, I'll try to improve the tween animation...

Thanks. I haven't laughed that hard in a while! At the same time, it's a damn shame about James Brown... The choice of music during the credits is PERFECT, both for the humor and in memorial to Mr. Brown.
This video sports solid graphics and smooth animation; your trademarks. Oh, and there's the gut-busting hilarity - can't leave that out. When B3n said "I gotta wee" , the look on our favorite Monkey-Man's face almost made me double over. Well executed!
Ummm... so, protesting something with the name-change?

I watched it a collective 10 times knowing full well that it looped.
You have, once again, produced a well-drawn, smooth-as-silk animation with a FIENDISHLY catchy song. I honestly don't know how you do it!
This was perhaps not quite as catchy as "crabs" or any of the "Magical Trevor" videos, but it was close - I caught myself singing this song on numerous occasions today.
One question: right after the first line in the song, the guy driving the bus says something rather incoherent, and it's been driving me nuts - what the heck is he saying!?
GRAPHICS: Solid, smooth, consistent. - [9]
STYLE: The very way it was drawn and animated made me grin. I watched it repeatedly both to watch the awesome animation and hear the awesome song. - [10]
SOUND: So... catchy... - [10]
VIOLENCE: Not Applicable. - [0] (Unless you're a cucumber, in which case, 10)
INTERACTIVITY: None - [0]
HUMOR: As I said, the art and animation alone made me grin, and the sheer insanity of the lyrics made it more than mildly amusing. Not a bust-out-loud kind of humor, but it certainly put a smile on my face. - [9]
OVERALL: I reserve my 10's for stuff that blows me out of my chair, which (alas) this did not. However, it came damn close. - [9]

Your art style is so distinct, I just can't help but love it. Plus, I'm a major fan of pie. Especially the blueberry variety.
GRAPHICS -- As I said, I love your art style. It's almost perfect, except there were a couple parts that didn't seem to mesh right. Other than that, a pure feast for the eyes. <9>
STYLE -- Once again, I love your art style. 'Nuff said. <10>
SOUND -- The music choice was classic, and was loud and clear. <10>
VIOLENCE -- Not applicable. <0> (they need to remove this category)
INTERACTIVITY -- Play button, and I assume there was a replay button, but I didn't stick around for the credits to finish. I'm bad about that. Anyway... <1> (they need to remove this category too...)
HUMOR -- It made me smile, but it wasn't exactly "funny." <4>
OVERALL -- Beautiful stuff. You're among my five favorite artists on this site, and for good reason. I reserve 10's for stuff that completely blows me out of my chair. Alas, this video didn't quite do that, and I'm opposed to indiscriminately handing out 10's. <9>

I think I played it for over 2 hours until my computer lagged out and they got past me on level 40, with a score of 79,795. I need psychiatric help. Badly.
The game itself is amazingly addicting, as if me playing it for 2 hours wasn't a clue. However, the fact that there are a whoping 2 kinds of enemy is a big detractor. A boss might have been nice too. Of course, for all I know, there *IS* a boss, but he's at the end of, I dunno, level 100 or something.
My biggest gripe, however, is the fact that on the last few levels that I played, my guys would only come one at a time, with a good 2 minutes between them, trot all the way across the map, and then be killed by enemies that are offscreen. That, sir, is cheap. I was sitting there, clicking until my BICEPS ached, but every one of my guys ended up being killed by constantly spawning enemies that I couldn't see.
1.) Give a goal - at least lets us know how many levels there are!!
2.) PLEASE fix the thing where off-screen enemies stack on top of each other when fighting that one little dude. It's just bloody impossible.
Other than that, a damn fine game. 8/10

I don't know what all the hype about this Naruto thing is about... I've watched 2 episodes and couldn't stop laughing at the incredible stupidity. It was like DBZ x10, so I don't think I could ever bring myself to like it.
This flash, on the other hand... is amazing. After seeing the 5th one, I went back and watched all the other ones and was equally entertained. Though I could never possibly like Naruto as a television show, this flash series rocks. It says something about the quality of a flash when somebody who isn't a fanboy of the material the flash is based on enjoys it. Awesome work, and I hope to see more in the future!
